Located in the center of the isthmus between Orchard Lake and Cass Lake, the John Dow Homestead was built of field stone from the surrounding farm. The original photo is believed to have been taken in 1865 or 1866. The lady shown here is Mrs. John Dow.

125th Anniversary of Orchard Lake Church. (July 18, 1999). GWBHS President Ted Radzilowski receives the original deed to Apple Island from Pastor Robertson. The deed written to James Galloway and was signed by President John Quincy Adams and dated August 6, 1827. A copy of the deed is in the glass case in the alcove of the GWBHS Museum.
