The Scotch school was originally erected, circa 1888, between Orchard and Green lakes, several feet south of Commerce Road on Old Orchard Trail. This one-room, frame building was replaced in 1926 with a brick building on the school’s present site at 2810 Commerce Road, Union Lake. Scotch Elementary school is the oldest in the West Bloomfield school District and underwent expansion and/or renovation projects in 1942, 1949, 1953, 1965, and 1970. Additionally, in the 1960s, an adjoining five acres of land-including a pond-was purchased by the district to be used for educational purposes.
