Car 7104 passes the Orchard Lake Beachstop (1912)
The D.U.R. : At the turn of the century it was the motorcar and the Detroit United Railway, and electric streetcar service, that had a profound effect on rural West Bloomfield. Increasing numbers of weekenders from Detroit and Pontiac discovered the joys of swimming, boating, and picnicing in the township. Real Estate operators saw the opportunity to turn vacationers into residents, and lots were sold around some lakes. |
